A Crowd of Stars edition by KD Holly Greg Gubi Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Really enjoyed reading this book from a new writer, KD Holly. It is not only entertaining, but also fast moving, has interesting characters, and unexpected plot twists. It is set in the late 1960's, but it would be an enjoyable read for adults of any age - a real page turner. You'll want to buy this book for your summer reading, and then you will hope for a rainy day to keep reading it.
This story, so well plotted and moving at a quick pace, engaged my interest continuously--there was never a dull moment. I was sorry when I reached the end, not to have those characters to follow any more. I hope to see more of K.D. Holly's books.
My favorite characters are Spenser and Hawk, Jack Reacher, Harry Bosch, Scott Horvath, John Corey -all very macho type personas that I have been avidly reading about for decades. So when I got desperate and ran out of reading materials, a friend of mine recommended "A Crowd of Stars". I thought, "yeah, right, a book about college chicks in the early 1970's, that sounds like a real page turner - LOL."

But I bought the book anyway and was quite surprised. Yes, it is mainly from an obviously very female viewpoint, but it was so darned funny, really well written, and did capture the flavor of the early 1970's so well that it was a beautiful trip down memory lane for me. And it did have enough action in it - maybe not the darkly serious action of Harry Bosch working a cold murder case out of Parker Center, but certainly not a "Frances Ha" either, so my ying (or it is yang?, I forget - whichever the male side is) was nicely satisifed too by some pretty rough characters that somehow interact with these three Ivy League seeming powerpuff girls.

So for all of you who love Michael Connelly, Lee Child, Robert Parker, Nelson DeMille and Vince Flynn, I say you won't be dissapointed by this book!

At first, I almost didn't finish reading the book. I was turned off by the phrase, "a walking phallus." It just didn't seem like a phrase anyone would use. Boy am I glad I kept on reading! I like stories that have long friendships, especially amongst women. I was transported back to when I was in college and began remembering my roommate experiences.

Unfortunately, I was turned off again when one of the friends mentioned "The American Negro." I understand the historical time of the book and that Negro would be an acceptable phrase for the social set of the 1960s. However, why would Americans call them, "American Negros"? But, I kept reading anyway and I'm glad I did.

I was reminded of my first "real" relationship and the feelings of not wanting to part from him, of how he made me feel and shook my head at Megan moving to Morocco and giving up on college for a man she only knew through writing and a short time in person. I'll let you read the book to find out how that went.

Overall, it was a great coming of age story that also was a history/cultural lesson for those of us who are closer to being Millenials. Normally, I'm not a fan of books written in the first person, but it worked really well in this case. Definitely a book I'd read again and recommend others read as well.

Note I received a free copy of the story in exchange for an honest review.
This is written with class and intelligence. I recommend it highly. I read it and then ordered a bunch for gifts to friends.
Loved this book! A real page turner. The story is a beautifully woven tapestry of characters, historic events, cultural clashes and psychological inquiry. Highly recommend it!
I really liked the characters and all the action, but it was the suspense that drew me in from one chapter to the next. I'm a sucker for romance, and this turned out to be a lot more than that. It was intrigue and adventure, and takes you places that lead down a path where it's hard to predict the outcome. It's a good read for anyone, and doesn't disappoint.
