Hiren Magical Adventure Magical Adventures Book 1 edition by Kathleen Patel Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This story was magical. And it teaches a lesson about another country that most of us have probably never been to. It takes us on a journey to India in depth including the cultures of India. I can't wait for hopefully more stories following Hiren!!
I initially bought this book for my nine year old daughter. I wanted to skim through it first to make sure it was age appropriate. Surprisingly, I found myself drawn in to the story. I read the book in one sitting. I was pleased to give this to my daughter. It is obviously a page turner- full of adventure and mystery-but it is educational. Interspersed within the fun, there is information on the culture, history and even the food of India. It illustrates the damage that results from ignorance and prejudice. It's a great book with a good lesson for all- kids and adults alike. I look forward to reading more from this author.
I was asked to review this book by the author, and I'm honestly happy that she approached me because I absolutely loved this book!! I loved the cover of this book, because if anyone knows me, they know that I have a huge soft spot for tigers. Anyway, in Hirens Magical Adventure, Hiren is sent to India by his parents to stay with his grandparents for the summer, to learn to appreciate his heritage. Before Hiren went to India, I sympathized with him, because it just seemed to me as if he really didn't understand why his family had to be different than any other American families. When Hiren went to India, he stayed with Dadee and Dadoo, which I learned is an Indian tradition as to what you would refer to your grandma and grandpa as. As the story went on, I was super anxious to find out all about the family's secrets and why they were so unaccepting of Dimpi and Pratibha. I loved the fact that this book kept me on the edge of my seat, and kept me wanting more. If you read this book, not only will you enjoy it, but you will learn about the Indian culture, which I appreciated so much.

I didn't know if I would like this- I thought maybe it was a kiddy book. I was wrong. I started reading it yesterday evening and could not put it down! It was so visual I could smell the jungle flowers and see the smoky ghost. The story was gripping and the ending was awesome!! I even learned things about India and the culture that I never knew. This is one of those books that will please several generations.
I had heard about this book and I finally read it last night- all night- I could not put it down. It seems lately the books that I have purchased, based on rave reviews have disappointed. I was so engrossed by this story. I really loved it. I found the story moving and I enjoyed learning something about the culture. It really exemplified the fact that people are really the same. The universal fear of the unknown, leading to bigotry and then ultimately inflicting pain where it is not deserved. But all of this was interspersed in the excitement and mysticism. If you are on the fence about reading this book because that 99 cents could buy you a cup of coffee - have a glass of water and read the book right now.
